Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, have a Professional Engineer License in Michigan and ideally have 10+ years or more of experience in roadway and/or transportation related design projects and 10+ years of related engineering management experience. Previous MDOT experience is a must; knowledgeable in MDOT standards and practices including: experience with the MDOT Plan Preparation and review process, experience in preparing MDOT Cost Estimates, experience in preparing MDOT schedules and budgets, and experience with and/or managing the design using GEOPAK Design software. This should also include basic knowledge and use of the MicroStation CADD Software. Working knowledge of local, state and federal transportation standards and procedures and ability to oversee, mentor and supervise junior engineering staff is also required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential to this position. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Act as Roadway Discipline Lead responsible for financial performance of roadway discipline within Transportation Market Segment
    • Track monthly workload to coordinate staffing needs with the Market Segment Lead (MSL) and recommend staff changes as needed
    • Accountable for project teams; coordinate with other Transportation Discipline Leads/Sr. PMs (Bridge, Traffic, Hydraulics)
    • Recommend training/seminars and memberships with annual budget and coordinate with other Practice Leads/Senior Project Managers within the market segment
    • Responsible for Utilization
    • Approve time sheets
    • Accountable for consistent technical project approach across market segment
    • Effectively coordinate roadway design activities with the MSL and across other market segments
  • Act as Senior Project Manager on large, complex surface transportation and infrastructure projects:
    • Proactively manage project technical budget (direct labor and expenses, including technical sub-consultants), schedule, technical requirements, contractual obligations, project communications, etc.
    • Work closely with client, other disciplines, and stakeholders in the successful delivery of projects.
    • Review and approve contracts and seek input from MSL as appropriate
    • Financial Project Management: i.e. A/R, invoicing, etc.
    • Responsible for client profitability
    • Mentor and oversee other project managers
    • Accountable for Project Manager/Client Manager performance
    • Accountable for pricing
  • Responsible for client satisfaction
  • Review proposal scope, pricing and other content for transportation projects
  • Solicit input on major pursuits from MSL
  • Responsible for sales efforts, proposal preparation and presentations and budgets
  • Responsible for new client contact development
  • Review RFPs and assign to the appropriate Project Manager
  • Responsible for division growth initiatives within Transportation Market Segment
  • Support the MSL in developing Business Plan goals
